Our work, Maat: Guiding Principles of Moral Living, is a return to the substance and source of African morality by recovering the rational kernel of Africa’s ancient moral and ethical traditions and putting it to paper.  The term Maat essentially means “truth and justice incarnate” in all aspects of life.  Our aim in preparing this book is to serve as a bridge, a portal, a medium for transmitting the transcendental wisdom of our ancestors across centuries—to absorb the most valuable elements of preceding ancient and modern developments, molding those vast experiences into an enlightening repository of guiding principles.  Anyone in the least acquainted with religious literature must know that once the mystical world beyond religious morality has disappeared it is necessary to establish morality in practice in this real world.

Those with integrity, humility and an open mind will appreciate the steep spiritual climb this book necessitates.  Nothing is soft peddled.  This is a book about indigenous African principles of morality and a tradition of justice.  Although we respect others, this is not a book about Judaism (Talmud, Torah), for we are not Hebrew; it is not a book about Christianity (Bible, New Testament), for we are not European; nor is it a book about Islam (Quran, Hadith), for we are not Arabs.  They wrote (and/or assembled) their own books in the Levant, Rome, and the deserts of Arabia; they created their own religions and gods; and they made their own relics of morality,  while conquering and enslaving nearly two-thirds of the world.
